Book Signing and Fourth of July Parade

Two Chamber events for the whole community to enjoy in June and July.

Events are a part of the Chamber’s mission.  We put together events for the community, to promote the community, and to promote the businesses we represent.  Some events are small and some are large.

One of the smaller ones coming up is our June 4 Local Authors Book Signing Event at   This is a partnership event with the Library, and it will run from 10 a.m. to noon that Saturday.  The idea came about because several members of the are talented authors, a few of many wonderful authors in the Greater Severna Park area.

When I approached the library with the idea, they suggested I work with a certain number of writers for this event, and we are featuring seven.  These talented individuals offer an interesting and diverse body of work.  They will be at tables among the library’s book shelves, with their books, for sale and signing.  It is my pleasure to announce the participants at this event.

Sam Shepherd, Chief Editor, and George Acree, Associate Editor, will be present with "Linstead on the Severn, A History."

John Covington will bring three great choices he’s written.  They are " Let’s Don’t Pave the Cow Paths, Enterprise Fitness, and Who is God & What Am I Doing Here?"

Michael R. Hicks is the author of "Season of the Harvest" an exciting science fiction book.

Michele Bertamini will be there with "Life with Clara, One Caregiver’s Journey."

To round out the lineup, there is Stormy Friday, author of "Signal’s Airport Adventure" a children’s book.  We invite you to come out and meet these talented local writers, and share in a very special Saturday morning event.

Speaking of events, there are always the big ones too!  One of the largest for our community is the annual July 4th parade, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4th.

The parade steps off from St. Martin’s In-The-Field Episcopal Church on Benfield Road, and culminates with a festival at Cypress Creek Park.

The Festival is an excellent opportunity for not-for-profit organizations to raise awareness and funds.  We are very proud to announce that the theme for the 2011 parade will be “Salute To Patriots of Liberty.”

We have four WWII veterans who will share the honor of co-Grand Marshals.  We invite the community to be an active participant in the parade.  Enter your community, your church or school.  Sports team, musical entries, and vintage vehicles are all a great part of the event.

For a parade application and the rules and guidelines, please visit our website at www.severnaparkchamber.com.  You can always call the Chamber of Commerce at 410-647-3900 and an application for either the parade or the festival can be emailed, faxed or put in U.S. mail that day.

We hope to see you on June 4 and again on July 4th!
