Singing Duo Serenades Trail Goers

If you happen to hear the familiar sounds of classic rock hits during your Saturday walk on the Baltimore Annapolis Trail—chances are it isn’t necessarily your iPod. 

Local duo Josette Jurczak and Alison Thoms of The Same Page, spend every second and fourth Saturday of the month singing songs at the Park Ranger Station on Earleigh Heights Road.

The pair, both Anne Arundel County School teachers, sing cover songs from artists like Hank Williams to Fleetwood Mac to Katy Perry. They started performing on the trail last summer when Jurczak volunteered to sing on Bicycle Safety Day.

“It started off just volunteering for that event and we had so much fun,” Jurczak said. “The crowd had such positive feedback and asked us if we were coming back, and we thought maybe we should.”

Jurczak said she has been walking on the trail almost everyday for 20 years, and just really loves the whole experience. Her passion for the trail is what inspired her to join trailblazers, a group that works to maintain the trail environment and safety. 

When Jurczak and Thoms formed The Same Page about a year and a half ago, Jurczak was able to combine her love of music and the trail.

“I love how much people seem to appreciate the serendipitous experience,” Jurczak said. “That’s a word that comes up frequently. People are so surprised.”

During their twice-monthly performances, The Same Page brings along extra shakers so kids that are passing by can join in on the fun. Jurczak said the casual and happy environment makes for the perfect stage.

“Everyone seems so appreciative it’s just fun,” she said. “It’s fun seeing all the different people coming and going. The crowd is constantly changing and it’s just a happy environment. People are out on the trail just to enjoy themselves and I like being a part of that.”

The Same Page will be at the B&A Trail Park Ranger Station at 51 West Earleigh Heights Rd. from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 22. They perform every second and fourth Saturday of the month, weather pending. More information can be found on their Facebook page.
