Rhianna Cuts a CD and Playing at Rams Head Live

Severna Park native makes a name for herself in the music world.

A 2009 graduate of Severna Park High School, Rhianna LaRocque now leads a band in Boston, MA where she is a sophomore studying communications at Northeastern University, home to her band with three fellow musicians (guitar, drums and bass) from the Boston area where they practice and play at a variety of venues.

Her latest CD  "Hotel Songs" is a compilation of recordings Rhianna wrote while traveling, mostly with her family over the past five years. "I guess that's a good place to write while traveling with my family and going on trips with my friends," she said.

Before heading back to Boston later this week, Rhianna performed at the Whiskey in Annapolis and Blues Alley in Frederick. But, she will return for a performance at a much larger venue on July 1 at the Rams Live in Baltimore.  " I'm super excited," she said. Her new CD will also be released around that time and she's hoping it will be available to purchase at the show. Rhianna cut the CD at a recording studio in Fairfax, VA, thanks to winning a contest by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) where she entered a song into their annual contest. "Temperamental Heart" indeed won over the judges' hearts and earned Rhianna free recording time and credit for a disc.

"I forgot about it and a few months went by," she said. Then an email appeared in November naming her the winner. Thanks to WAMA, the group recorded most of the new CD in January during winter break and finished it during spring break.

Recently, Rhianna played at the Whiskey in Annapolis and at Blues Alley in Frederick, MD. Rhianna wants to make music her profession. "It really would be awesome, I'll be doing this for awhile I'll keep working at it, " she said.
