Edie Hopkins

When Editor Leslie Hunt mentioned initiating a monthly feature focusing on local artists, I offered to start the series off by praising the talents of my former Village of Severna Park neighbor Edie Hopkins, who now lives in a McKinsey Park condo with her husband Bill.  I’m happy to boast that her unique spirit lives in her paintings on the living and dining room walls of our home where they are pleasant company.

Recently I discovered that many of Edie Pyle Hopkins’ works are on display in Severna Park at on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. This charming restaurant with its distinctive Country French architecture and outdoor garden is an ideal dining setting in any season. 

Hopkins' art continues to evolve in ever interesting forms, currently in acrylic depictions of a variety of egrets, roosters and sunflowers   She has long been known for her watercolor portraits, landscapes and whimsical etchings, and her urban and coastal scenes from Maine to South Carolina.  She has gained a large following through her lighthouse art. 

A graduate of Yale School of Fine Arts, Hopkins was associated with the National Gallery of Washington and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.  She also taught at Annapolis High School and gave private art lessons in Severna Park.  In addition to Café Bretton, her work is displayed at Annapolis Marine Art Gallery and she is also represented by Creative Connections, Inc. Hopkins is a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Annapolis Watercolor Club.

At we can thank manager Victor Ledezma for ensuring that our dining experience pleases two of our senses – we can please our palate while admiring the artist’s palette expressed in Hopkins’ art displayed in every area of the restaurant.

The paintings add to the European atmosphere because historically artists have exhibited in cafes. "I value my 14 year association with Victor, who has continuously appreciated my work enough to feature it prominently at Cafe Bretton," Hopkins said.
