Drum and bugle corps are similar to marching bands, but use only brass instruments in addition to percussion color guard flags, rifles and sabers. Formed from military tradition, today's modern corps bring a wider variety of music, visuals and even dance to the football field stage.
Thomas is a drum corps "rookie" who, after participating in competitive auditions, was offered position in the Cadets2 percussion battery line as a cymbal this past winter. He is beginning his third year as a member of the SPHS marching band, and currently is the bass drum section leader.
Michael participated in the SPHS marching band all four years of high school, and returned for three years to help teach the band's visual program. This fall he will be in the Towson University Marching Band.
In addition to competing on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, the Cadets2 will be rehearsing in Severna Park at Cypress Creek Park. The rehearsal is open to the public.
