Welcome Bash at Severn, Engagement Party in Linstead and Picnic in Round Bay

Here's a new column covering all things fun and festive in Severna Park. If you are having a bash, hosting a party or picnic, we've got it covered on the Patch!

We’re going to try something new here at the Patch. We are launching a social column to report on the many swell soirees that take place here in the Park.  You may remember me writing a similar column for The Capital newspaper about 10 years ago.

If you know of an event or party taking place please shoot me an email and I’ll try to get there. Or send me a summary after, preferably with photos. No detail is too small. We want it all: the drama, the pathos, the exhilaration and despair…well maybe not the despair.

To date we’re still working on a catchy title. If you have any ideas, please forward them along. Some being bandied about are “What’s the Buzz SP?” “ SP Scuttlebutt” and “Severna Park 411.”

hosted its swanky Welcome Back Bash for parents and students Thursday evening on the Boone House Lawn. Alumnus Nick Codd `69 did a tremendous job with his staff from the Spectacle Shop. Twinkling lights on trees and tent, swinging lanterns and hundreds of candles combined to make it a most memorable evening. The 4-foot high flower masses didn’t hurt either.

Some of the “Parkies” in attendance included: Jennifer and Tom Carter, Gayle and John Bremer,  Chris and Izzy Melendez, Kim Corbin Aviles, Elaine and John Soderland, Molly and Ernie Green, Astrid and Mike Frey, Lexi Nelson, Sara Mudge, Kathy and Ken Code, Marjorie Corwin Schechter, Real Cipriano, Sarah and Tom Igler, Whitney and Scott Kerridge, Mike and Sarah Crowell, Erin and Julian Domenech, Melissa and Chris Diamondidis, Lynn and Tom Foard, Susan Fu, Andi and Todd Whiteford, Luane and Ham Tyler and the list goes on and on.

Around the cove in Linstead,  Peter and Wendy O’Neill hosted a lovely engagement party for their goddaughter and niece Kerry O’Neill and her fiance, Oscar Trujilloon on Saturday evening. Kerry is the daughter of Mike O'Neill and Erin O’Neill both Severna Park natives.

Catered by the Main Ingredient, Wendy and Pete’s hilltop waterfront home served as the perfect backdrop for the elegant soiree, complete with a gorgeous multi-colored sunset.

Kerry is engaged to Oscar Trujillo who currently is completing his final year of study at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He plans be an ENT specialist. Kerry is an attorney in Washington, DC. His family came in from Dallas and Austin, Texas.

Some of the many family and friends were on hand to wish the couple well included: Kate and Jeff Moon, Peggy and Ted Turnblacer, Linda and Russell Bowler, Anne and Ray Stewart, Karen and Dave Lusby.

Also in attendance were Patty and Jack Rush; Kit and Steve Peyton; Jim Cheevers; Tim and Susan Murnane; Yvette and JP Krom, Kevin and Debi Magnuson and Bob Magnuson in from Chicago as a surprise guest.

An enormous contingent of 20- something cousins and friends who came from as far as Denver and Kansas City rounded things out for a decidedly festive evening.

Over at Round Bay beach things were lively as the community hosted its annual Labor Day family picnic on Sunday afternoon. Multi-generations of families danced and were entertained by the popular entertainer Ellis Woodward who played games, sang songs and acted silly with the small fry.

Some of those who were there included, Maryann and Cam Neal, Ann and David Edwards, Nancy and Gerry Luttrell with granddaughter Brooke, Alexis and Jim Tatem, Sharon and Dan Flagler, Crissy and Bill Gardner, Janet and Tom Lloyd, Betsy Bacot, Margaret and Steve Podlich, Kathy and Bruce Nelson, Lynn and Paul Keller and many more.
