Video: Local Girl Scouts Sell Cookies for Troops

Most everyone knows that Girl Scout cookies are tasty. But did you know you can buy a box of cookies to donate to the troops?

Oak Hill Girl Scout Troop 1771 has been participating in the Gift of Caring program, which allows Girl Scout cookie customers to buy cookies for someone else, such as a serviceman or servicewoman serving overseas.

"Gift of Caring is a way for people to buy cookies for someone else," said the troop's cookie mom Pamela Drummond. "They can donate the cookies to troops, SPAN, Baltimore Child Abuse Center, local nursing homes or elsewhere."

All Girl Scout troops participate in the Gift of Caring program, but few troops have had as much success as Oak Hill. The troop was honored by the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland as the winners of the “Who Has the Biggest Heart” contest, which recognizes the troop with the highest pre-sale number.

Donating the cookies to military troops has a special meaning for the Oak Hill Girl Scouts—Meghan Bartel's father is currently serving in Afghanistan.
