Unity Gardens Grant Helps Beautify Severna Park Community Center

An outside area at the community center is now ready for spring planting.

A $1,000 grant from Unity Gardens with the help of SJR Landscaping of Severna Park, local boy and girl scouts, high school and college students, a project started last spring concluded earlier this month at the (SPCC).

"The project proved to be bigger than we expected… as you can see from the before pictures, the area was filled with wire and nut grass and our hope was to turn it into a field of native flowers," wrote MaryAnn Neal of SPCC in an email to Patch.

"However, once we started to dig, we realized that the area was also filled with construction debris making digging a hole very difficult, " she said.

The group was able to rid the area of weeds and fill the area with good top soil and a light coat of mulch to be ready for spring planting.

Local Eagle Scouts are also helping out SPCC with special projects, and the plan is for new benches in the area as well.
