Superstorm Sandy: One Year Later

Where were you during the storm?

If you think about where you were this time last year, memories of sitting inside, in the dark, watching the rain fall probably fill your mind.

Superstorm Sandy hit landfall on Oct. 29, 2012, and killed 117 people in the United States, according to US News. The storm was characterized as one of the most destructive in U.S. history.

During a storm, a 73-year-old man was killed in Pasadena when a tree fell on his house.

In Severna Park, Sandy caused flooding as well as downed power lines and trees. The storm left many area residents in the dark for days.

The Round Bay community in Severna Park saw some of the most damage in the area. Waters rose into the front yards of homes in the community and many residents were without power for more than a week.

Sandy also caused a basement wall to collapse in the 400 block of McBride Lane in Severna Park.

After the storm, the Severna Park community railed to help those hit the hardest in New Jersey. The Renick family home in Severna Forest turned into a collection site, and donations filled the streets. A shelter in New Jersey cheered for the people of Severna Park when the donations arrived.
