SPCC Will Offer Multiple Parent's Night Out

Kids can enjoy a day of supervised entertainment at the Severna Park Community Center while parents work or do some holiday shopping.

Are you looking to get some holiday shopping done on Black Friday but don’t want to drag your kids along with you? The Severna Park Community Center (SPCC) can help.

Beginning Friday the community center will offer a Parent’s Night (or day) Out. You can drop your kids off for a few hours of supervised entertainment while you run some holiday errands.

“We have been talking about looking into additional programs that would be a support to the community,” SPCC director Jennie Boden said. “We talked about whether or not we could do parents night out and decided it was something we could do since we had great resources to put together.”

For $25 for your first child, and an additional $20 for each sibling, you can drop your kids off at the SPCC on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. And the best news is the entire program is being run by and Anne Arundel County educator with more than 20 years of experience.

“The educator is running and planning the entire event,” Boden said. “The kids will do everything from quiet time, to playing in the gym to arts and crafts and maybe even some cooking.”

After Friday, there are four more Parent’s Night Out scheduled including 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 1 and Dec. 15; and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 21.  The Dec. 7 and 21 Parent’s Night Out will include pizza and a movie.

“What we are doing is seeing how it goes over the holidays and then we will continue to do it out throughout the year if there is a need,” Boden said. “We will potentially add days in when kids are on break. We see it as a way to outreach more to the community and provide alternate fun for kids.”

Due to space limitations, parents interested in dropping their kids off need to register in advance on the SPCC’s website. Parent’s Night Out is also only for kids in kindergarten through fifth-grade.
