SPCC Weekend Events: Spaghetti Dinner, Triathlon, World Concert

The 14th annual spaghetti dinner will be held at the Severna Park Community Center on Saturday.

Members of the Severna Park community can participate in a weekend long celebration on Saturday and Sunday that includes a spaghetti dinner, a concert and a triathlon.

Four events designed to bring the community together will be held this weekend. All the events are occurring at the Severna Park Community Center (SPCC) and the Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church within 48 hours of each other.

“As an organization with the mission of serving as a community gathering place, we are thrilled to host these family festivities on October 5-6 in collaboration with other local non-profits” said Jennie Boden, Executive Director of the Severna Park Community Center.

The weekend starts early with the 5th Annual Karen Stevens Memorial Kid's Triathlon kicking off at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5. This recreational kid's triathlon was created in memory of Karen Stevens, a treasured member of the SPCC family who was a swim instructor at SPCC Aquatics. Proceeds from the triathlon go toward funding swim lessons for underprivileged children.

The 14th Annual Spaghetti Dinner, drawing hundreds of diners each year, will be held Saturday night from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This year it will be held at the Severna Park Community Center for the first time.

“We loved holding the dinner at St.-Martins-in-the-Field Church annually, but it is has become so popular that we needed to move our pasta pot to a new spot,” Boden said.

The dinner will be held in the gym of the community center on October 5 to accommodate more attendees than ever before. Tickets are available at the door or in advance.

The ticket price is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-8. Children ages 3 and under eat free. All proceeds benefit the programming of the Severna Park Community Center.

After dinner, local residents are encouraged to walk across the parking lot to Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church to enjoy some music. The WakeUP World concert, at 7 p.m., will feature the band Revolution Child from the Hungarian Embassy in D.C., Baltimore’s own Darin Atwater (conductor of the Soulful Symphony) and others in the Severna Park community. Admission is free with a donation amount of your choice.

After a full Saturday, the greater Severna Park community will enjoy a fun-filled afternoon back outside at the Community Center on Sunday, October 6 with Celebrate Severna Park. This 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. fair will feature food vendors, singers and dancers, arts and crafts, kids' activities, bands for all ages, and more. Admission is free.
