Shipley's Girls Scouts Camp out at Camp Letts in Edgewater

75 Girl Scouts, leaders and parent chaperones from the Shipley's Choice cluster held their encampment at Camp Letts in Edgewater last weekend.

The encampment was planned and organized by Kim Schmidt who wears many Girl Scout hats; she is the leader for both of her daughters' troops and is also the cluster coordinator for Shipley's Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts kept busy,  moving from one activity to the next - sea sledding, hiking, swimming, archery, and canoeing out to a  private island for some water play time.   

For the Cadettes, there was a high ropes course and horseback riding on a trail along the beautiful Rhode  River.  

The favorite activity for many girls was the sea sled.  Marissa Dinunzio said: " I loved going fast on the sea sled. This was the best encampment ever. " 

Jessica Albert agreed: "The sea sled was the best part of the day.  I had so much fun on it with all of my friends."

 Other Girl Scouts said riding horses was their favorite. For many this was their first horseback riding experience.  "I liked the horseback riding the best. I really liked the grey horse I rode. Her name was Flopsy.  She kept stopping to eat plants, but  I liked her anyway," said Julia Hoenscheid. 

Megan Bentrewicz, 11, and new to the neighborhood said: "I totally enjoyed the camp, I really never would have been motivated to do any of the great activities offered without such a great opportunity and great new friends I made while I was there. It's so friendly with great instructors, new memories and greater bonded friendships were made. I loved the whole experience." 

The evening ended with a sing-a-long lead by Paula Thayer, a Girl Scout leader from Annapolis, follow by skits and S'mores by the campfire.
