Severna Park Yard/Bake Sale Helps Child Fighting Cancer

Yard sale bargains draw a crowd while helping to raise funds for Crofton's Triniti Wilburn.

A loving brother’s handwritten sign said it all, “Yard/Bake Sale for A Cause.”

Mason Brown stood on the side of Jumpers Hole Road Saturday morning waving a sign to the passing traffic in an effort to help his little sister, Triniti Wilburn.

“I love my sister and I would do anything for her. This is just one way that I can help,” said Brown.

Crofton Meadows resident Triniti Wilburn has anaplastic large-cell lymphoma. Soon, she will undergo chemotherapy at Johns Hopkins.

The large yard and bake sale was organized by neighbor and family friend, Nicole Thomas who came up with the yard sale idea to help them raise money for the additional expenses. Thomas took the day off work on Friday and gathered items from all over the Crofton area.

“I just wanted to help the family. Because of chemo, there will be a lot of added expenses for the family,” she said.

“I have been watching the family through this heartbreaking time and just wanted to do something to help them,” Thomas added.

Triniti’s grandmother, Dot Huth, also attended the sale and volunteered to lend a hand.

“It has been a good day. Lots of sales. It was very nice of Erin Wood to donate use of her front yard,” said Huth. “We needed somewhere big enough to put out all the merchandise,” she added.

Thomas said not only did many families contribute items to sell, local businesses helped out as well.

According to Thomas, Absolute Party Rentals in Pasadena donated tables to be used during the sale. Broadleaf Tobacco in Severna Park donated a large number of wooden cigar boxes. An abundance of toys were donated by Glory Day Care Center in Glen Burnie.

Also at the yard sale were donated baked goods. The baked goods table overflowed with cookies, brownies and cakes.

“Last night, I made up a large tray of Paula Deen’s Texas Sheet Cake," Thomas added. "I think this will sell very well!”
