Severna Park Lights Annual Christmas Tree with Appearance by Santa

The event will be held on Dec. 2 with an evening of entertainment, refreshments, shopping and Santa.

The annual tree lighting to herald in the holiday season in Severna Park will be held Dec. 2 at the where the 10-foot-tall decorated holly tree will be illuminated.

The evening begins with professional bagpiper Michael Binnie playing holiday tunes starting at 5 p.m. followed by performances by the chorus singing "O Christmas Tree!" at 5:30 p.m. and the Maryland Performing Arts Center dance performance from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.

Refreshments will be served in the Chamber’s community meeting room, following the tree lighting, with more festive music performed by flautist Gino Mezzapelle.

The Severna Park at 1 Riggs Ave. will be open from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 for the festivities and again from noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 3 and 4.

Holly Avenue will be closed to traffic from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 2.

The evening continues at Park Plaza with Santa Claus, holiday entertainment, free sleigh rides and holiday shopping with extended hours. There will be free photos available with Santa until 8 p.m.

Families are asked to bring a new pair of socks or mittens to be donated to a help-the-homeless drive.
