Severna Park Calendar: May 2013 Events

The month of May features prom and graduation for Severna Park High School seniors.

Raising money for St. Jude's and suicide prevention, training for 5Ks and a bunch of events for high school seniors are just a few things happening around Severna Park in May.

Special Olympics Volunteer Meeting
When:
May 2, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Severna Park Library
Details: Anne Arundel County Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization that provides sports programs to more than 300 eligible athletes, ages 8 to adult, with a cognitive delay or developmental disability.

Kick-It For Cancer
When:
May 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: First Class Martial Arts
Details: The cardio kickboxing marathon will raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Split Ends Salon Beverly Festival
When: May 4, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Split Ends Salon
Details: The event itself is free, but all proceeds from the vendors and raffles will be donated to the Morgan Beverly Suicide Prevention Foundation.

Mantra Fit Bootcamp
When:
May 6, 6 a.m.
Where: Severna Park Community Center
Details: Experience an energizing full body workout fusing cardio and strength, with an emphasis on core.

5K Training Class with Spark Running
When:
Begins May 7
Where: Spark Running
Details: The class will lead up to the SPCA Tails and Trails Severna Park Edition on June 22.

Breakfast at the Elks
When:
May 7, 9 a.m.
Where: 160 Truck House Rd.
Details: All you can eat eggs any style, pancakes, bacon, grits, waffles, omelets, hash browns, corn beef, toast, fruit, coffee and tea. Cost is $9 a person.

Fashion for a Cause
When:
May 9, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Chesapeake Treasures
Details: Proceeds from the event will be used to support Chesapeake Kids, a program service of Hospice of the Chesapeake.

How to Save Money on Your Utility Bill
When:
May 9, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Severna Park Community Center
Details:
A short informative meeting about how to make the most of energy deregulation in Maryland.

Mother Daughter "Dog Walk" Fashion Show
When:
May 11, 2 p.m.
Where: Severna Park Community Center
Details: Girl Scout Troop 1788, from Folger McKinsey Elementary School, is holding a Mother Daughter "Dog Walk" Fashion Show to benefit the Maryland Animal Sanctuary.

Jenkins Memorial Church 20th Anniversary Golf Tournament
When:
May 17, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Compass Pointe Golf Courses
Details: The cost is $110 and includes greens fees, cart rental, range balls, continental breakfast, hot dog at turn and a buffet dinner. 

Car Wash Fundraiser for Woods Youth
When:
May 18, 8 p.m.
Where: Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church
Details: Support the local youth as they raise money to go on their summer mission trips.

Kinder Farm Park 4H Livestock Club Farm Tours
When:
May 18, 10 a.m.
Where: Kinder Farm Park
Details: The 4H club is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18 who want to learn more about livestock.

5K at Folger and Hoot Scoot Fun Run
When:
May 19, 8 a.m.
Where: Folger McKinsey Elementary School
Details: Proceeds fund enriched learning opportunities, keep pace with technology and purchase supplies.

Severna Park High School Graduation
When: May 31
Where: Towson University

Breakfast Shoppe Fundraiser in Honor of Lance Cpl. Taylor Wild
When:
Until Memorial Day
Where: The Breakfast Shoppe
Details:
The restaurant is collecting money for Friends of the Fallen, a support group of volunteers located at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The group provides assistance to families of the fallen.
