Severna Park Cadette Troop Not in Uniform for This Fashion Show

Severna Park Cadette Troop 2399 became models for a day on Saturday at Severna Park United Methodist Church where the girls modeled Savvy Consignment clothing.

Move over Project Runway, Cadette Troop 2399 has it down when it comes to putting on a fashion show. Nine girls modeled fashions from Severna Park's Savvy Consignment shop on Sunday in the church hall at .

Like seasoned pros, the girls posed gracefully for the cameras, while others took the more energetic approach by twirling down the "runway" while families clapped them along. Some worked a straight model walk into their outfit presentation by looking straight-ahead with a smile.

The troop led by Kim Schmidt and Lisa Chadwick, are working on their Fitness to Fashion Badge. This show featured spring and summer fashions including must-haves such as sundresses, Easter dresses, going-to-a-dance outfits, brightly-colored prints and adorable shoes.

From chic and trendy "I want to party" to nautical "a day on a sailboat" and full circle to "what to wear to a formal dance or prom" (including a few designer labels sprinkled in such as Lily Pulitzer), all of the clothing was borrowed for the event from Savvy Consignment shop.

Thanks to shop owner Stacey Cassidy, these Cadette-turned-models for a day were in high fashion for a good cause. All of the proceeds will be donated to relief efforts in Japan.

Cassidy opened her shop, that specializes in designer clothing, to the girls beforehand and allowed them to rummage through her vast inventory to find their outfits.

"It was a hoot and it was a mess," said Cassidy with a chuckle. "It was fun and I think they had a good time."

Cassidy loaned dresses, skirts, tops, accessories, jewelry and other fashion items sure to make a statement and hopefully a sale for the cause, on the runway.

The background music changed with each outfit theme. Songs such as "California Girls," "Soul Sister" and "Walking on Sunshine" to name just a few, had all of the models acting naturally and relaxed in their delivery by smiling and waving to their audience.

Cassidy played a big role in the success of the event and said she would take back any clothing the girls weren't going to purchase.

"This is my way of giving back to the community," said Cassidy, who asked the audience to shop locally whenever possible.

Savvy recently was voted No. 1 consignment shop in the area for 2011 by the and received the same recognition in 2010 by the Capital newspaper.

The proceeds from the tickets and raffle will benefit Japan Relief Efforts. Keeping the local communities needs in mind, the troop also collected nonperishable food items for (SPAN).
