Severn River Lions Club Celebrates 55 Years

Annual Bull and Oyster Roast raised $3,000 to help fund community projects.

The 7th annual Bull and Oyster Roast held at the Columbian Center on Saturday raised $3,000. The club raffled a 42 inch plasma HD TV along with wheels of chance, a silent auction,  and a smorgasbord of  food.  All the money raised goes to local scholarships and community service projects.

“We are proud of our club’s 55 years of service to the community,” said Rollins Clark, club president.  “Severn River Lions thank everyone who contributes to this important work. They have truly helped the Lions make a difference in our community.”

Since the club’s chartering in 1956, the Lions have worked on numerous projects in the local community, such as preschool and adult vision screening, Adopt-a-Highway, handicap ramp construction and the Meals on Wheels program. Proceeds from fundraising events have provided annual scholarships to graduating seniors at Severna Park and Broadneck high schools; supported Leader Dogs for the Blind, which trains sight and hearing assistance dogs, and provided food and funds to Serving People Across Neighborhoods (SPAN).
