Remembering 9/11 With Prayer and a Ceremony This Weekend

Highlights this weekend include 9/11 remembrance events, SPHS football, a suicide prevention walk, the Maryland Seafood Festival, and the OEM Preparedness Fair.

Sat. Sept. 10

Why Go: Annapolis Out of the Darkness Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  Check In Begins 8 a.m./Opening Remarks 9 a.m./Walk 9:30 a.m. Walk starts at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD 21401 (across from the Navy- Marine Corps Memorial Stadium). Why Go: The Office of Emergency Management will host the 2nd Annual Preparedness Fair. View Police and Fire department personnel and equipment, vehicles and more.  Local agencies and nonprofits will provide information to the public on preparing your home, family or business for an emergency or disaster.  Learn how to make a kit. Bring the whole family!

Pricing:  Free to attend.  Food and beverages will be available for sale.

Sun. Sept. 11

When/Where:  Sun., Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m./ , 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD

Why Go:   This is a community-wide interfaith worship service that will be held to remember those who lost their lives 10 years ago in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

When/Where: Sun. Sept. 11  at 8:30 a.m./Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Headquarters, Millersville, MD.

The 9/11 memorial in front of the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Headquarters on Veterans Highway will be open to the public with a 10th anniversary ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. followed by a moment of silence at 8:50 a.m. to remember the nearly 3,000 people who died when terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, PA.

Col. Edward C. Rothstein, USA, the commander of Fort George G. Meade, in Fort Meade, MD will be the featured speaker.

The Annapolis Chorale will perform at the ceremony and also at two free evening events at St. Anne’s Church at 4 p.m. and Maryland Hall at 7 p.m. You can find more information about the chorale at
