Police Warn of Heavy Weekend Traffic in Annapolis Area

The boat show, Navy - Air Force football game, Maryland Renaissance Festival and more events will cause traffic delays in Annapolis this weekend.

If you're thinking of traveling down Ritchie Highway and into Annapolis this weekend, you may want to allow some extra time. 

Anne Arundel Police are warning travelers of the combination of big events happening around Annapolis this weekend, which will cause heavy traffic in the area.

Motorists should expect major traffic delays in and around Annapolis on Saturday, October 5 due to the Navy football game, the Annapolis Boat Show, the Maryland Renaissance Festival and several motorcycle events in the area.

Saturday peak travel times are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Some of the affected roads include I-97, Route 50, West Street, Rowe Boulevard, Aris T Allen Blvd, Ritchie Highway, Solomons Island Road, Riva Road, Route 32, Route 100 and Defense Highway.

  • Navy Football plays Air Force at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in front of a sold out crowd. Expect periodic road closures on roads around the stadium before and after the game.
  • The Power Boat Show is in Annapolis all weekend. Parking on Saturday is at 2644 Riva Rd. (Board of Education lot). Shuttle buses will take you to the show.  
  • Renaissance Festival continues in Crownsville.
  • Several motorcycle processions.

If you're traveling to any of these events, or through the Annapolis area, police encourage you to leave early and drive with patience.
