Jones Elementary School has Dedicated Teachers

Four teachers in particular have gone over and above raising over $7,100 to improve technology at Jones Elementary.

"We have some teachers that have gone over and above to raise the funds necessary to implement technology in our school (smart boards, airliners, presenters, document cameras, etc)," said Amy Wernecke, PTA president.

"Our Technology Committee is run solely by these teachers on their personal time. These teachers are Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. Wiggins, Mrs. Brown, and Mrs. White.  April 30th, 2011, they coordinated and hosted our second annual 5K Fun Run for Technology raising over $7, 100," she said.

Wernecke recalled the amount of preparation it took to make the event a success - from website development and finding sponsors to overseeing prizes, food, customized T-shirts, an on-site masseuse and a silent auction with items donated by the school staff.

"It has become a wonderful family event that we look forward to again in 2012, " said
Wernecke.

"Mrs. Lambert is a fabulous teacher and our resident technology guru.  Through research done on her own time, she is continually pushing that technology bar higher and higher.    At a time of year when it would be easy to sit back and coast through the last 24 days of school, Mrs. Lambert continues to implement new ideas and work with teachers in the building to teach them how to use technology to enhance instruction."

"Mrs. Brown’s smile is infectious.  Her love for her craft and her students is amazing to watch.  Under her watchful eye her students seek to explore new avenues for learning and in her quiet and gentle way, she guides them down  a path of exploration that leads them to an end result that is tailored to their own personal needs."

"Because of her love of nature and all things science related, Mrs. White became a Chesapeake Connections teacher several years ago and raises Terrapins in her classroom.  Through hands on activities she teachers children a global respect for nature as well.  She is our Green School Committee chairperson and was instrumental in Jones receiving Maryland Green School status last year."

"Not only is she a phenomenal teacher, Mrs. Wiggins has worked tirelessly throughout this school year to plan for and implement our second annual Run for Technology 5K, bringing in over $7, 100 that we are using to purchase Smart Boards and other much needed technology."

"Jones Elementary is very fortunate to have a fabulously talented and giving staff.  Because we are a smaller school we are able to really take a vested interested in one another, both professionally and personally and that caring feeling is felt within the building and resonates in the friendly faces and warm gestures that are evident throughout.

"Creating an optimal learning environment for our students is crucial and through our staff members countless hours spent planning quality instructional units and nurturing each student as an individual, it is evident that our school climate continues to become more positive with every passing day."
