Irene Aftermath: Severna Park Traffic Advisory

Here's a traffic light update which may have changed since the 4 p.m. post on Sunday. Travel around Severna Park today is tricky with many traffic lights not operating. Plan for extra time on the roads today.

As of 3:30 p.m. Sunday, traffic lights south of Robinson Road are not functioning on Ritchie Highway.

• Traffic light at Cypress Creek Road and Ritchie Highway is not operating and are blocked-off at Cypress Creek Road (South side of highway).

• Traffic light at Mckinsey Road and Ritchie Highway still not operating at 2:30 p.m.

• The light at the intersection of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard and Mckinsey Road was not operating.

• Traffic light not operating at Riggs Avenue and Benfield, in front of the parking lot.

• Traffic light not working at Truckhouse Road and Benfield Road.

Large amounts of debris and downed trees have also affected power lines close to the Arnold section of Ritchie Highway. 

While the traffic lights were working at State Circle in Annapolis, the outlying areas approaching from Ritchie Highway and Route 50 were still out.

The left hand turn lanes of the larger intersections, such as Baltimore Annaplis Blvd at Whites Road are blocked off, forcing drivers to stay straight and delay any needed turns.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) lists the following traffic advisory on their website:

“Do not travel on roads unless absolutely necessary. If you encounter a traffic signal without power, always treat it as a four-way stop. Do not drive through standing water…”
