Google Maps Offers a New Angle on Severna Park

Have you seen the new satellite imagery of Severna Park offered on Google Maps?

Take a look for yourself. Google 21146, click "satellite" in the top-right corner, then zoom to about two or three notches before the closest setting. Suddenly, the traditional overhead satellite view is replaced by a 45-degree angle view.

The new angle adds depth, giving the impression that you're flying over the town instead of viewing it from space. It also makes everything look somewhat like children's toys. 

Google stated in their blog that the view allows its users to explore their cities in new ways.

"This type of imagery allows you to explore the sides of buildings and other locations—you can even rotate around a particular point of interest using the compass ring to view it from four different perspectives. To see the new imagery, simply zoom into an area while in Satellite mode. Where we have 45 degree imagery available, the imagery will switch from an overhead to 45 degree angle as you zoom all the way in. You can then pan smoothly across the map to get a richer view of the area."

Don't go too far though, if you move south past College Parkway in Arnold, the view snaps back to the overhead satellite imagery. It's also not in Annapolis. But regions north of Severna Park, up through Baltimore, all have the feature.
