Five Questions with SP Basketball's Rachel Vander Kolk

Rachel Vander Kolk is a junior on the Severna Park High School basketball team.

Patch stopped by the Severna Park varsity basketball practice and spoke with junior Rachel Vander Kolk, 16, about her basketball career, life at SPHS and her plans for the future.

Severna Park Patch: What is your favorite Severna Park basketball memory?
Rachel Vander Kolk: Having the game tying basket to go into overtime against Seton Keough my freshman year.

Severna Park Patch: What are your expectations for this season?
Vander Kolk:
Definitely having a winning season if nothing else. Also, playing more like a team and working off each other more. We need to play basketball not just run plays.

Severna Park Patch: What other groups or activities do you participate in at Severna Park High School?
Vander Kolk: I play soccer and lacrosse. I also volunteer at Ronald McDonald House.

Severna Park Patch: What was your favorite class at Severna Park?
Vander Kolk: Math. I am just a math person. I like when things work out.

Severna Park Patch: What are your plans after high school?
Vander Kolk:
I am playing Lacrosse at UVA. I pick UVA because I would be getting a good education. I want to be an aerospace engineer so I am working on that. I am looking forward to just having the experience of playing lacrosse at the next level.
