Community Corner

Day of Service

Governor O’Malley, in
collaboration with the governors of Virginia, West Virginia, and the mayor of
The District of Columbia, has declared September 29, 2012 a Day of Service.
These officials have called for an “Interfaith,
regional effort to encourage participation in community service projects to
help benefit the environment and end hunger in Maryland.”

For its
part, a local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has
organized a canned food drive. They will be delivering empty grocery bags and
informational pamphlets to local homes on September 22nd, and
returning to collect donated canned goods on September 29th.

The
church members will not be able to canvas all of Severna Park, however. If you
do not receive a bag/pamphlet, but would like to help, a collection station
will be set up outside the Giant grocery store in Severna Park (573 Ritchie
Highway) on September 29th,
from 2:30-5:30 pm. If you would rather, monetary donations will also be
accepted. Checks should be made out to Anne Arundel County Food Bank.
