Dispatch from the Road2Recovery Ride

Severna Park's Karey Harris reports in on her first day in New York City.

This is Karey Harris' first report on her trip to New York City before starting the ride on Sunday morning (Sept. 11).

The ceremony at Fire Station 10 was very humbling, and pictures of all 343 first responders who gave their lives were on a plaque.

After the ceremony we toured the World Trade Center Visitor's Center. It was very well laid out, I'd encourage people to visit, but be prepared.

They have boxes of tissues laid out all over the place. They did a good job capturing what NYC was like before the tragedy, chronicling the day for all four planes and the building victims, then ending with how the cities were rebuilding.

They had pictures of memorials set up worldwide, artwork from children, and individual stories. I left feeling happy, even though I definitely used a tissue or two inside.

Overall, I've met some fantastic people here. Lots of accomplished soldiers with lots of good stories to tell.

I have only met a handful so far, but I look forward to riding with them starting tomorrow.
