County Science Fair Held in Severna Park

Children, their parents and teachers flocked to Severna Park Middle School for the 2011 Science Fair.

Words like hypothesis, control group and data log were heard in homes around the
county as area children prepared for Anne Arundel Public School’s  Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Elementary School Science Fair, held at (SPMS) on May 18 and 19.

Projects were submitted by dozens of third, fourth and fifth graders and winners chosen in many interesting categories.

"I am really, really proud,” said Four Seasons third grade student Santiago Gomez. He landed himself a blue ribbon for a project on the environment and ammonia in fish tanks.

Teamed together, Caroline Kelly, 9, and Lyndsey Bakal, 8, both third graders at
Davidsonville Elementary, displayed their first-place medals to their proud
principal, Jean Marie Hofstetter.  Their successful joint project dealt with how the environment in which you study affects your study skills. The girls discovered that classical music is the best accompaniment to hitting the books.

Kudos to all Anne Arundel County elementary school students and the teachers that guide them.  They worked hard to fill SPMS with budding scientists at 2011’s STEM Awards Ceremony held on Thursday.
