Conquer Chiari Walk at Kinder Farm Park Raises $25K

Hundreds of people walked to raise money for research and awareness of the neurological disorder, Chiari. Severna Park Middle School student was event director.

More than 400 people attended Maryland's first ever Conquer Chiari Walk on Saturday, including more than 325 walkers along two different courses. Twenty three Chiari patients were also in attendance, including the event director, 12-year-old Megan Killpatrick, a seventh grade student at .

The original goals of the event were to raise $10,000 matching Megan's own personal fundraising from the last two years, and have 300 people attend the walk.

The numbers surpassed their target in all counts with $25,000 in donations while raising awareness of the rare medical condition with hundreds of walkers.

Megan, with the help of her family, friends and local community, hosted a fun and festive active event with walkers, runners and young kids all enjoying a day at .

In addition to hospitality, prizes and a special celebrity guest appearance by the Chick-fil-A Cow of Pasadena, there was an interactive Tae Kwon Do demonstration by Master Curtis Cash of Kick Xplosion.

There were also arts and crafts activities along with active games and a lacrosse station.

Angie Blumenberg of Millersville won the grand prize raffle of basket full of Raven's memorabilia, signed picture, game tickets and a free night at the Marriott, a total value of $750.

Megan's parents, Pat and Cheryl Killpatrick of Millersville, were overwhelmed by the generosity and support of their community and welcomed new friends to their circle as they met fellow Chiari families here in Maryland.

The Killpatrick's hope to start planning soon for next year's event, which is already scheduled for Sept. 22, 2012.
