Chartwell Couple Celebrate their 40th Birthday in Zen Style

Severna Park's Susan and Jason Wells throw a bash to remember.

The backyard of Chartwell resident's Susan and Jason Wells was converted into a self-professed "Zen Den" on Saturday evening to celebrate the couple both turning 40 this month.

Susan Wells said she's been planning their 40th birthday celebration "for almost a year now" and with the onslaught of rain almost ruining their celebration, she was filled with trepidation as the day approached. But the rain cleared out just in time for the Sept. 24 "Wells-a-palooza".

Susan Wells has a fondness for spunky colors and Buddha/Zen inspired patterns and with a degree in Fashion Merchandising she knows how to pull all the patterns together. She personally made all the pillows, curtains, table clothes and runners herself.

With the help of friends, she set up several seating areas complete with Asian-inspired lanterns, comfy couches and backdrop curtains to add ambiance.

About 76 people attended the event and many brought appetizers. "Birthday Cake" martini's were served along with food catered by Adams Ribs of Severna Park. Controlled Chaos, a local Severna Park based band played popular 80s and 90s music to get the party moving.

Mrs. Well's gave a "Seuss"-inspired toast to her husband and a polka dot fondant-layered cake was served to celebrate the occasion. Not a bad way to celebrate 40 years!
