Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Practicing since the age of 5, the key for Winkler’s success is “practice, practice, practice”, according to mom Molly Winkler.
The testing requirements for the 4 and a half hour black belt test are:
- Repeat learned patterns since the white belt
- Demonstrate knowledge learned at each of the previous belt levels
- Break three boards using three different techniques
- Self-defense demonstration
- Choreographed fight scene
- Step sparring
- Sparring with one person
- Sparring with two people
- The ability to do pushups
In her nomination submission, proud mom Molly Winkler noted, “Wesley has been preparing for this test since he earned his black tip 18 months ago. He is following in the footsteps of his older brothers Matt and Jason and joins their rank of 1st Dan Black Belt.”
