A Frugal Family Halloween

Here's a roundup of deals on costumes, candy and a few more Halloween activities for you.

Halloween can be an expensive holiday, when you factor in costumes, decorations, candy and scary-themed attractions. This Halloween-edition of Frugal Family should help you save a few dollars while getting in the spirit of things.

Costumes
Check out Partycity.com for a variety of discounts on costumes that change nearly every day. The most recent advertised bargains included 20 percent off all costumes, with some as much as 60 percent off. The website also offers free ground shipping. There are Party City stores in , Glen Burnie and with extended Halloween hours.

Target is offering discounts of up to 50 percent off certain costumes and decorations, while Walmart has kid costumes for as little as $10 and inflatable decorations starting at $19.

Spirit Halloween stores in Glen Burnie and Edgewater have select costumes on clearance, and if you order from their website, shipping is just $4.99 on orders of $65 or more.

Halloween Adventure in the Annapolis Mall has a 10 percent off coupon for costumes bought in the store, and there are other discounts for costumes bought online.

Halloween Express in Elkridge has kids costumes for under $20, and has an instant coupon for $5 off on its website.

Candy
Most supermarkets will be rolling out specials on Halloween candy. Safeway already has advertised local 2 for $5 deals on bags of snack size candies from Hershey’s, Nestle and Mars. Giant has snack size candies 5 for $10 through Oct. 20, plus deals on Tootsie Rolls Pops and Wrigley’s Fun Size candies. Weis Markets have advertised deals on candy apples.

Meanwhile, Whole Foods will be celebrating apple fest through Nov. 1, with deals on local apples and baked treats.

Activities
The Anne Arundel County Fair Haunted Barn and Hayride started on Oct. 15, and is offering $1 off each ticket if you bring a group of 10 or more. (Regular price is $10 per person.) There will also be a drawing for a two-pack of tickets.

The Haunt at Maryland Sunrise Farm in Gambrills will take $2 off the price of admission of you bring a can of food to go to the Capital Area Food Bank.
