7 Ways to Talk 'Hands Free' While Driving

Who knew a bra could be considered a hands-free device for cellphone?

While it's hard to believe October is here, Tuesday is the first day of the month and the date when a new Maryland law makes it a primary offense to hold a cellphone in your hand while driving.

Patch recently asked Facebook readers to “tell the truth” about whether they use hands-free devices while driving. A few admitted to holding their phones while chatting but most said they comply the law.

Some readers offered their best practices to go “hands free.”

On Glen Burnie Patch’s Facebook page, Ashley White shared her creative method for holding her phone while it’s on speaker: “I put it on speaker and stick it in my bra strap on my shoulder.”

“Please everyone try it ...You won't go back to the one handed death trap!” wrote Kathy Baranek Grimley on Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch’s Facebook page. She added that she uses a headset because she conducts a lot of business calls while in her car.

Maggie Popham wrote on Broadneck Patch’s Facebook page: “I love using my bluetooth roadster! Or I use speaker phone while driving. Not into using a earpiece. I feel like it affects my hearing.”

“If I forget my Bluetooth, which is often, I put the phone call on speaker,” wrote Kay Moreland on Annapolis Patch’s Facebook page.

Mindy Campbell Rust wrote on Broadneck Patch’s Facebook page, “I use one earbud from my iPhone. And I don't text/drive either. My daughter does that for me or whoever it is will wait. Not worth my life or anyone else's.”

“The Onstar phone is the only way to go,” wrote Bruce Potter on Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch’s Facebook page. “Then people just think you are talking to yourself and move away from you out of fear.”

Lee Ann Rissler wrote on Crofton Patch’s Facebook page that she has a “Bluetooth enabled car.. best invention ever…”
