ARTS COUNCIL OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY TRANSITIONS TO ONLINE GRANT APPLICATION SYSTEM

Traffic is brisk on the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County website (acaac.org). Local nonprofit organizations are filling out their applications for General Operating Grants, Founding Grants and Special Project Grants along with Mini-Grants for art activities for fiscal year 2015. They have until May 2, 2014 to complete the forms and they are doing it all online. As of this month, paper applications are no longer available or accepted.

“We’re trying to streamline the process, while being environmentally responsible,” explains Senior Program Manager Brenda Collins. “So far, the process has been going very smoothly. Last month we offered online tutorials and applicants are always welcome to call our office for assistance.”

Over forty nonprofit organizations—museums, theaters, performing groups, and teaching institutes— rely on grants and support from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County.  The grants range in size from $500 to $70,000 and can make the difference in a nonprofit organization’s survival.  Admission tickets, art class fees, and art sales seldom cover general overhead operating costs. “Our mission is to encourage and invest in the visual arts, performing arts, and historical preservation in Anne Arundel County,” explains Executive Director April Nyman. “Distributing grants is one of our primary means of supporting arts and culture in our community.”
