BLOG: Edwards and 4th Congressional District - Now Including Severna Park

The District 33 Democratic Club hosted our new Congressional Representative at Perry's Restaurant in Odenton last Thursday.

Last week the District 33 Democratic Club had a special guest speaker, Donna Edwards, the first term Congresswoman from Congressional District 4.  She represents parts of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties, and is now going to represent a chunk of Anne Arundel County — including Severna Park, Arnold and some of Pasadena.  I decided to attend the meeting so I could observe first hand her positions and her persona.

The meeting was in a back room of Perry's in Odenton.  I'd never been there before and the accomodations were comfortable with a bar set-up and waitresses taking food orders and bringing dinners to the club members throughout the meeting. The club took care of some business items before Ms. Edwards spoke and to her credit she patiently waited until it was her time.

There were many things I found very interesting: First she didn't really answer questions and second, she was very careful about how she spoke of our current two Republican members of Congress from Maryland. She repeatedly referred to Congressman Harris and Congressman Bartlett as "Mr. Harris and Mr. Bartlett." Both of them, in addition to being Congressmen, are doctors - Bartlett having a doctorate degree in Physiology and Harris being a medical doctor of Anesthesiology. But she continually called them both 'Mr.' as if they were your neighborhood pharmacist or grocer.  As opposed to her reference to "Senator Cardin", when she discussed his being one of the sponsors of SOPA and that he "has now seen the error of his ways."

Congresswoman Edwards spoke of her beginnings growing up in the military, her educational background and early work experience.  She worked for example as a community organizer - just like our current president - and she is an attorney - just like our current president.  YouTube videos show her at public events such as rallies with Van Jones, the self avowed Communist who was forced to resign as Obama’s Green Czar when it became public knowledge he is a Communist.

One of the items she spoke of was the Constitutional Amendment she’s introduced in response to the Supreme Court’s decision (SCOTUS) that Corporations are allowed to contribute unlimited funds to candidates.  She feels it allows incumbents to have an unfair advantage.  Yet she attended a DNC fundraiser that was specifically given for incumbent Democrats that cost $5,000 to $75,000 a plate.  Not all is fair in love, war and apparently politics.

She also had a stint at the human microphone with the D.C. Protestors outside the Willard Hotel after the DNC fundraiser.  Her words to the protesters were, “I stand by the 99 percent.  In my district are the 99 percent.  People who have lost their homes.  People who’ve lost their jobs. People whose income is below $50,000 per year, the lowest median income in decades. It’s not fair. It’s not right.”

We are the United States of America.  When did “fairness” become the main focus of this nation?  I believe this shows the hypocrisy of the Democratic party’s insistence that it is the party of the people, when it can so easily speak out of both sides of it’s collective mouth.

By the way, apparently Senator Barbara Boxer thinks the title that she worked so hard to get is worth being addressed by it, Congresswoman Edwards.

I personally believe in doing the right thing, as defined by my own standards, not what’s someone else’s definition of fair.
