Top 3: Free Chicken, New Cellphone Law, Canine Companion

A new state law taking effect on Oct. 1 will make driving while talking on a handheld phone a primary offense.

1. Local Woman Finds Independence, Safety in Canine Companion
For 20-year-old Hannah Staisloff, each day is full of risks. 

The Severna Park graduate has a rare condition that causes her to black out frequently, without warning, and often hurt herself in the process

But soon Staisloff will have some relief, and get the help she needs, in the form of a dog.

2. First 100 Eat Chicken For Free at Chick-fil-A
In case the news that Severna Park will officially have it’s own Chick-fil-A on Oct. 10 wasn’t exciting enough, the first 100 customers can also have free chicken.

Chick-fil-A: First 100 is held the day before a grand opening. So in Severna Park, the event will be held Oct. 9.


3. Cellphone, Seat Belt Laws Set to Take Effect
Starting Oct. 1, police in Maryland will be able to pull drivers over for talking on a handheld cellphone.

That's the biggest change in Maryland's driving laws set to take effect at the beginning of next month. Motorists caught driving while using a handheld cellphone can be fined $75 for a first-time offense, up from $40 under current law, but more for subsequent violations.
