Governor O’Malley, in
collaboration with the governors of Virginia, West Virginia, and the mayor of
The District of Columbia, has declared September 29, 2012 a Day of Service.
These officials have called for an “Interfaith,
regional effort to encourage participation in community service projects to
help benefit the environment and end hunger in Maryland.”
For its
part, a local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has
organized a canned food drive. They will be delivering empty grocery bags and
informational pamphlets to local homes on September 22nd, and
returning to collect donated canned goods on September 29th.
The
church members will not be able to canvas all of Severna Park, however. If you
do not receive a bag/pamphlet, but would like to help, a collection station
will be set up outside the Giant grocery store in Severna Park (573 Ritchie
Highway) on September 29th,
from 2:30-5:30 pm. If you would rather, monetary donations will also be
accepted. Checks should be made out to Anne Arundel County Food Bank.
If you would like more information, or would like to learn
how you, your family, your friends, or your congregation can help, please call
(443) 595-7575.

More About Giant Food
A trip to Severna Park Marketplace would not be complete without a stop at Giant. But you can't just run in for one or two things. This grocery store is way too delish for that. High-end deli section; salads and meals already prepared that will knock your socks off, seafood department, pharmacy, exceptional bakery and floral sections, self-checkouts -- Giant's got it all in here. Services include Peapod Home Delivery, Blue Rhino propane, Coinstar, PNC Bank, Western Union and RedBox. It's really a self-contained little universe.
Please note: This is a very busy store and shopping center. Parking can be tricky on weekends, so take it very slowly in the parking lot. Your patience will be rewarded with good values and fine foods. And of course, plan to spend extra time because you always run into your neighbors and friends at Giant.
