BLOG: Left turn Onto B&A or Robinson From Ritchie Highway

Did you know that, on Ritchie Highway, you CAN'T run through the green turn light going into B&A (near McDonald's) to get on line to turn onto Robinson (near Walgreen's)?

As you pull up into the turning lane to B&A, there are THREE signs telling you "LEFT TURN LANE MUST TURN LEFT."  Three signs! Yet, there are people who, when it's their turn to go through, sneak onto the the line to turn into Robinson.

And I WAS one of them, because somehow, I didn't see ANY of the three signs.  And I got a ticket!

I wanted to include a picture of the three signs, but I am tekkie-challenged...

Are you going to keep sneaking through?

The thing is, if you don't make the Ritchie Highway light to get past B&A into the Robinson turn lane-- AND if you're NOT the FIRST waiting for the now-red-light-- you will NOT make the left turn light onto Robinson. So the motivation is there to sneak PAST THE THREE SIGNS that say "DON'T" and get in line to go onto Robinson. But-- there must be some good reason to time the lights that way. Right??

That is the exact problem with that stretch of Richie Highway. I think one of us should request a study to either retime the lights or allow all left turning cars use this lane such as what is done with local traffic turning into multiple shopping center entrance which reduces road congestion flowing straight. The request would go to a traffic engineer probably state not AA county. KP

I think the flow of traffic and the shopping centers entrances/exits and traffic turning across Richie should be reviewed by the residents and a traffic engineer.

on the other hand the only way to get onto robinson road is to turn onto B&A and then take your first right past Mcdonalds and into the neighborhood. I guess that is what the traffic engineers intended.

While they're at it it is really stupid to not have a left turn westbound on robinson at that light

Actually, Even though I use that street all the time, I'm glad there's no left turn there anymore. It's a really dangerous corner as it is, and especially with high school traffic going back and forth, it's way better to keep it clean, with a straight line of traffic, than risk last minute, yellow-red light left turns, with the same last minute yellow-red light gunning-across-the-street (since that light never lasts very long) that become accidents.

Thank you for bringing this problem to the public, there have been countless times I have almost been side swiped by a car doing that very thing of driving straight, through the turn lane. We should also remind people that headlights are not just to see with, they are so people can see you, and if your wipers are on so should your headlights.
