Hi Guys! My name is Trinity and I am one sweet bully pup. I’m about 2.5 years old, weigh 50 pounds, and am a Staffordshire Bull Terrier/Mastiff mix. I have a big, infectious smile that lights up when I see you, and I have captured the hearts of all my Mutts Matter friends. My foster mom says I’m one of the sweetest dogs she has ever met, and she’s met a lot.
Not only do I have a winning personality, but I have a very even temperament and can roll with the punches. I would fit well in most situations; I’d be great with an active single owner or laid-back couple, and I’d be a perfect family dog too. I’m good with kids and was raised in a family with kids of all ages, from infants to teens. Unfortunately, someone in my family developed allergies, and I ended up surrendered to a local Maryland shelter. It hurt my feelings to be abandoned, but in retrospect, I don’t think they paid me a lot of attention. I’m confident there’s a better life waiting for me, and a family who will love and cherish me for the awesome dog that I am.
The good news is that I lucked out, and Mutts Matter hooked me up with a great foster home. Not only does my foster mom take excellent care of me, she owns a dog day care and boarding business, so there are always lots of cool dogs for me to play and socialize with. It’s awesome! I love to hang out and interact with other dogs, and even have a few boyfriends that I’m particularly fond of... I smother them with kisses all the time, but sometimes they just ignore me. I don’t get it. You guys can see that I’m gorgeous, so I guess maybe they have girlfriends back home?
My foster mom describes me as a sensitive soul. I’m eager to please and respond quickly to discipline, but I also shy away from loud noises and raised voices, which may stem from my experiences growing up. I will benefit from positive reinforcement and training to help build my confidence and trust.
I’m such a good-natured dog; I love people and other dogs, and have zero aggression. I know how to share, and you can easily take toys, bones, or food away from me. I’m already potty-trained, walk well on a leash, and know some basic commands, like “sit” and “stay.” I’m pretty good with recall too, and will come when you call me - unless the glorious smells of nature distract me, and then I need a little extra encouragement. Once I’m in my new home and have someone to work with me, I’ll be an excellent student.
What it comes down to is that I’m just a cool, lovable dog. I’m playful, but also laid back and a great snuggler. My foster mom laughs when I leap in the air to give her kisses. I know I’m not really supposed to jump, but I just want to share my love!
Any family lucky enough to adopt me will have a loving and loyal companion for life.

TenenusD - Our blog posts on many Patch sites all over MD and VA, and only in PG County is this an issue. This most recent post for Trinity was not featured on most of the PG County Patch sites, and Mutts Matter will not adopt any type of pit-mix dog to a resident of PG County. I'm not sure why the Bowie Patch has this post and I feel bad for the residents and dogs of PG County who are affected by these unfair laws, which don’t do anything to stop dog bites and ends up in the senseless killing of many, many innocent pups. We appreciate you pointing this out for residents of PG County, but your comments reach a much broader audience here, and I hope your intent to is not dissuade potential adopters from meeting and adopting a very sweet and loving dog like Trinity.

You're most welcome. If not for the fact that I already have my own sweet, bully girl (http://www.flickr.com/photos/virginia_southern/7404805868/in/set-72157627701144322), I would consider adopting Trinity. I have several bully groups I belong to on FB and I'll help spread this blog post around when I get home from work today.

Awesome. It's always great to hear from a fellow bully enthusiast and we appreciate all outreach efforts for our pups. If you or anyone you know would like to learn more about Trinity, just let me know. She's an awesome dog and would be a great playmate for your pup if you decide to expand. I just checked out your pics... what a beautiful girl you have! She has ears just like one of mine and a coat like the other. I'm the proud owner of 2 bully girls, Cleo and Zoe: http://imgur.com/a/hq7nS#0

I encourage everyone looking for a dog to adopt a rescue dog. Your adherence to the current law is admirable, and I thank you for it. I do believe Mutts Matter Rescue is great organization that provides a necessary service.
However, I emphatically encourage anyone considering adopting this animal to educate themselves on the historically aggressive nature of the breed. Ideology aside, this is not up for debate. The data are freely available: "In the US and Canada, from 1982-2011, pit bulls, Rottweilers, their close mixes, and wolf hybrids account for 68% of attacks that result in fatalities and 76% of attacks that result in maiming."
http://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-study-dog-attacks-and-maimings-merritt-clifton.php
In 2012,fatalities for same are at 66%:
http://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2012.php)
As far as the "unfair laws, which don’t do anything to stop dog bites"; Well, I can't speak to that without data... But I will examine the correlation that this statement suggests: There's less of these dogs, and the bite data is unchanged... Logical conclusion: The remaining Pit Bulls/Mixes are becoming more aggressive, which suggests that further restrictions should be implemented.

Dogsbite.org is a one-person hate site that hateful people like you, who typically don't like pit bulls because they associate them with the African American community, love to quote. Their study is fabricated, and that is what's not up for debate. Here's some actual data from places that people have heard of, like the CDC, the ASPCA, and the Humane Society:
CDC
There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill
http://www.cdc.gov/HomeandRecreationalSafety/Dog-Bites/dogbite-factsheet.html
AMERICAN HUMANE SOCIETY
American Humane opposes legislation that seeks to ban a particular breed of dog...Breed-specific legislation that outlaws specific breeds of dogs can increase the danger to the community by spawning black market interest, indiscriminate and irresponsible breeding practices, and subsequent overpopulation issues.
http://www.americanhumane.org/assets/pdfs/animals/au-animal-welfare-position-statements.pdf
ASPCA
By contrast, following Winnipeg’s enactment of a breed-neutral dangerous dog law in 2000, pit bull bites remained low and both Rottweiler and total dog bites decreased significantly (Winnipeg reported bite statistics, 1984-2003)

Buck is right its a women named colleen lynn and this site was made by her as a revenge thing after a 2007 bite from the breed. She needs to grow up.

The CDC also offers up statistics on their website:
http://www.cdc.gov/HomeandRecreationalSafety/images/dogbreeds-a.pdf
It puts this cautionary note under the document though (http://www.cdc.gov/HomeandRecreationalSafety/Dog-Bites/dogbite-factsheet.html):
"It does not identify specific breeds that are most likely to bite or kill, and thus is not appropriate for policy-making decisions related to the topic. Each year, 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs. These bites result in approximately 16 fatalities; about 0.0002 percent of the total number of people bitten. These relatively few fatalities offer the only available information about breeds involved in dog bites. There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill."
Notice however that the last year calculated is 1998. This article explains why: (http://news.change.org/stories/are-dog-bite-statistics-reliable

Very informative, TW3, thanks for those. I admit I am a little confused that they state "It does not identify specific breeds that are most likely to bite or kill," but then proceeds to break down all the charts by breed. Perhaps I'm missing something. But it's noteworthy that Pit Bulls top the charts, no matter how the data is presented. In addition, dogbite.org has a link to each individual news report, with owners and/or authorities confirming Pit Bull as the breed. Further, the photo examples shown for visual breed naming vs. actual DNA component, though called "unreliable," are all actually pretty close. Some are even spot-on (no pun intended). Claiming "Well, it might LOOK like a Pit Bull and still not be one" is a pretty weak attempt (by the Humane Society) at evading the obvious truth and watering down the statistics.

You seem to have a lot of interest in the breed, so I'm surprised you don't know that the media, law enforcement, and even owners commonly misattribute more than 15 separate breeds of dog as 'pit bulls,' which would be expected to lead to a marginally higher number than easily identifiable breeds like Rottweilers or Huskies. I know you're really into this dogbite site because it reaffirms your hate-based views, but it's great that you're able to break away from there to do the lord's work here at the Patch trying to prevent this dog from finding a home.

It is obvious that I am not going to change your opinion and that is okay. That is indeed the beauty of America.
I do find it disappointing though that you would so easily dismiss the information I presented and continue to base your argument solely on the same activist website that is a sketchy source at best.

When it comes to pit bull terriers, ignorance abounds.I used to be one of the ignorant people. That is before Shorty Rossi and Pit boss gave me my first glimpse of the real love and personality of the dog. Then,I did lots and lots of research on my own.I then adopted my Pit bull Shiloh girl, who hands ,or paws down,is the BEST BEST dog that has ever owned me.I have had mutts, and rescue animals my whole adult life.Since adopting Shiloh I have met hundreds and even thousands online and in person, who will tell you this breed has truly gotten a rap it does not deserve.Don't buy into the media hype,or the spew of ignorant people, find out for yourself....you just may find your angel in fur,or your best friend.

I didn't come here to argue, I just wanted to remind everyone in PG that they're illegal. (The one thing PG seems to have done right.)
But to those that broought it up: Umm... facts are hate-based? Oh, and almost no one (excepting you, I'm sure) can tell what breed a dog is? Well, that makes so much sense now THANK YOU!!!
It's a proven fact (there's that word again) that one gravitates toward information sources that agree with what one already believes. In this case: that this breed of animal — a genetically disastrous abomination with a predeliction for chewing faces off, bred for more than a century to be a fighting and killing monstrosity, a breed mistakenly allowed to persist so that selfish humans can either exploit its power or use it to foolishly and falsely claim superiority over the former— will be a BEST BEST doggie friend ever.
In teh nicest possible way, I "spew" again my encouragement of everyone to research this themselves and not listen to the inane ramblings of dull-witted basement dwellers typing one handed ad-hominem arguments or hausfraus attempting to trim the weight off their loneliness by regurgitating non-sequiturs and exaggerated diatribes.
