Clambering along the rooftops, looking out for the City Watch guards and their technology that can vaperize people, I took out my humans heart and located a whale-bone rune in a building nearby. Upon picking it up, I realized that I could add another powerful spell to my repertoire. Maybe a spell that allows me to stop time completely or maybe allow me to possess a rat to find a new route to my target. Dishonored is the newest IP from Bethesda Softworks and had a great deal of hype surrounding it as its release came closer. Don't worry though, Bethesda fans. Dishonored is one of the best games of the year thus far and has brought significant changes to stealth/action/open-world games, changes to a genre that hadn't seen major changes since Bioshock back in 2007. This game has brought player choice back into video games, not seen since Skyrim. That might not seem like a long time, as Skyrim came out last November, but all of the First-Person shooters that have been released between these two games have made it easy to be excited for Dishonored. You play as Corvo, the Lord Protector of the Empress of Dunwall, until you witness her assassination and are subsequently accused of murdering her. Six months later, a mysterious group helps Corvo escape from prison and so begins a story of revenge and redemption. Throughout the nine missions, you must kill the nine members of the conspiracy and you get to choose how to take care of them. Do you confront them face-to-face, always fun, or do you find a more stealth way to deal with them? Every mission is located in an open-world section of Dunwall, which means that you can find multiple ways to complete each mission and can complete several optional missions that can also impact the main missions. Add to that the ten different powerups that can be upgraded by those runes I was talking about ealier, the bone charms that provide minor upgrades, such as less fall damage and imcreased swim speed, and this game has a very robust system for player customization. Along with the many different routes for completing each mission and this game has a very high level of replayability. Get this game and you won't be disappointed, for, as this game has said repeatedly, "Revenge Solves Everything."
