Severna Park be forwarned...the primary was moved up to April this year from its past position in September. So, with the addition of the early voting that began a couple of years ago that means folks in this state can actually begin voting on March 23.
In addition to the Presidential race, in 2012 we will also vote for a U.S. Senator - the one position now held by Ben Cardin - and Congress. Since the lines have been re-drawn on the Congressional maps, these should be very interesting races.
As you may already know, Anne Arundel County is in four Congressional districts now: CD2, CD3, CD4 and CD5. In Severna Park, Arnold and part of Pasadena we were switched from District 1 to 4, which lumps us in with a large portion of Prince George's County.
What you may ask, do we have in common with P.G. County?
Nothing you may say....and you would be correct. But that move makes the district diversity count work out, so that's the reasoning behind the change. The same kind of change took place in CD6, out in Western Maryland where the very rural countryside is now aligned with heavily congested Montgomery County, a suburb of Washington D.C.
When you look at the newly carved out Congressional District 3 in Maryland know that it has received the nation-wide distinction of being the most convoluted congressional district in the COUNTRY. Cool beans, huh?
With all of these changes going on the Severna Park Republican Women's Club decided to host an event they are (appropriately) calling: Let's Talk Politics. It'll be held next Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Martin's-in-the- Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Rd. No speeches, no pressure, no charge. Just an opportunity to meet some of the candidates running for these offices. Bring your questions and your friends.

question: why do we have to have something in common with PG county ? what kind of common things do you want the 2 areas to have? I am sure there are lots of common things if you think hard enough. Amy, are you upset that an area with lots of Blacks are now in the same district as mostly white and rich Severna Park?

Answer: When counties have things in common the rep doesn't have conflicting agendas. I would think eastern shore reps spend a lot more time on farming issues then those in AA County. Looking at the map we see a large portion of AA county is connected to PG county. Hopefully we have better representation of that section of AA County. As a poor white person I hope she helps SP out. We are moving from a time where race is less important and S/E status is. There are a lot of folks in SP that have been living there for 30+ years when you could get a house for 45k. I went to school with a number of original blacks of SP and they have long since sold their land for a mint and moved to better places. Race wasn't mentioned in the blog so why did you jump to it? Maybe you need to look harder at yourself then casting eyes on others.

No Mr. Thomas…in fact Congresswoman Edwards is upset that she'll be representing all of us white people.

ouch Amy, I don't think those are quite the words she used, I hope I'm wrong anyway. I would guess she would prefer to have PG county since that's where she's from. On the other hand we have a little more in common with PG then the eastern shore, I think

Amy, arguing with this troll is like mud wrestling a hog, after a few minutes you realize he just enjoys it. He is always throwing out ad hominem attacks looking for a response. I think you should ignore him since he doesn't now how to argue or discuss, just tries to get you upset. Of course I sometimes let him suck me in and then I just have to let him get the last word so he will crawl away. I'm somewhat convinced he's preteen who got keys to his daddy's pc

DioDingo : do you know why I jumped to race ? It's because Severna Park is mostly white. Why is there no low income housing for young Black adults in Severna Park ??? Please answer that question for me...

There is no low income housing. Doesn't matter what race you are. If I didn't have a family house to buy then I wouldn't be able to live here. I would do like most of my friends from SP high school did and move to GB, Pasadena, or someplace else in the county. There was once lower income housing all around the town, but as the town grew so did the housing values. Blame those people who sold their land for a fortune so it could be sub-divided into houses in the low 500's. Its not a race issue, its a housing issue. I think this town needs more diversity. Do you have a solution for how we can add diversity to the town?
