TELL US: Would a Different Location be Better for Chick-fil-A?

The Chick-fil-A is slated to fill the old KFC but some raise questions that a new location would be better.

It’s no secret that some people are not happy that a busy and bustling Chick-fil-A will eventually fill the old KFC on Ritchie Highway.

Chick-fil-A has already signed the lease for the KFC building and has plans to move in but, with other vacant buildings around town, I thought it would be interesting to see if readers would be more open to the business coming if it were in a new location.

The reasons why the old KFC isn’t an ideal location for Chick-fil-A seem to be endless: traffic issues, parking nightmares and congestion. On a recent Patch article, one reader raised an interesting question about the fast-food chain’s location.

Patch reported last week that the former M&T Bank location still remains closed following an August 2012 fire. A reader commented that the bank's location would be a better fit for Chick-fil-A once it was repaired.

Besides the former M&T Bank, there are vacant storefronts in Robinson Crossing (two right next to each other) and there are several in the 1st Mariner Bank Square Complex on Ritchie Highway.

Would you be more open to a Chick-fil-A in Severna Park if it were in a different location? What location do you think would work better? Tell us in the comments.

A Chick-fil-A restaurant needs to be a "stand alone" structure to facilitate drive through lanes. Store front locations like those mentioned at Robinson Crossing and the 1st Mariner complex would not be viable choices.

I agree John. Just wondering if it were any other company would they get such an outpouring as this!

The old M&T bank next to the Taco Bell in Park Plaza is stand alone and would work if there's nothing there yet.

The KFC location is fine. I drive Leelyn every day, living down Arundel Beach Road. Leelyn behind Starbucks is more congested, then the road directly behind old KFC. My opinion Starbucks should have done something about the road by them and Goskas.

It's Chik-fil-A's business, not mine, but I'm surprised they'd put one so close to their Pasadena store. It certainly would cannibalize their sales in Pasadena. I, for one, would not drive up there any more if I can get my chicken fix here in S.P. Also, the location they are considering will create more traffic tieups, without a doubt. Starbucks is already busy. This is a very weird traffic area near the former "malfunction junction, Goska's. It's tight. Having said all that, Chik-fil-A is a very reputable company and will be a credit to the community and I welcome them.

Hey Dave! Sheri and I have rarely gone to the Jumpers location but are excited to have a CFA in the neighborhood. We are already talking about walking to it. We are all for it.

How about in the Food Lion shopping center. To the right as you go into the shopping center... It is a lot of parking there and it would be nice to see more in that shopping center.

I think the old KFC building is just fine. If not would it hurt if we got rid of one of the Mcdonalds? Anywhere would be fine. Just hurry up! :)

Chris
Have lived and traveled Leeyln Dr for 29 years. Why no outcry when Starbucks opened. They have more early am traffic than Chic -Fal-A. Watch the traffic in and out of Starbucks and Goska's which is worst than what Chic-Fla-a will cause. I would rather have a $5.00 Chicken sandwich than a $8.00 cup of coffee.

I personally do not care about a Chic-Fil-A here or there or any where! BUT the old Post office is actually a good location and easier to drive.

I agree it will be wonderful to have a Chic-Fil-A here in Severna Pk, but hopefully road "improvements" and increased traffic will not further degrade the quality of life of those homeowners. Where exactly will the road widening occur in this already ecologically challenged area? Where the huge drainage gouge runs? The Park n' Ride lot? Or the other side where people live? And where does the Greater Severna Park Improvement Association and the Arundel Plaza Community Association weigh in on this?

To the Severna Park Patch: Please rerun comments you published before opening Starbucks. I would bet you did not run any. For God's sake let them build and get over it. I really think it is about their positions on gay marriage.
