Whitehurst Community Rallies Around Fallen Marine

Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV was killed Monday during a training accident in Nevada.

An American flag is a common sight in the Whitehurst community this week.

There’s one on the Whitehurst community sign. There are several along the fence in front of the playground. And there are plenty on the lawns of the homes in the community—each one marking the community’s remembrance of a fallen hero.

Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV, a Severna Park High graduate, was killed Monday during a training exercise in Nevada. Since word of his passing, members of the Severna Park community have come together to grieve and offer their support for the Wild family.

Taylor Wild’s Facebook page has become a memorial page, as friends and acquaintances leave messages of love and memories.

As the community expresses signs of love with flags, food and kind words, Taylor’s mom Betz Wild said their support comes as no surprise. She told Patch it’s why she chose to raise a family in Whitehurst.

“Whitehurst can rally,” Wild said. “That’s why my husband and I moved back here to raise a family here. We know what Whitehurst is capable of and that’s support.”
