Two New Principals Join Severna Park Schools

Severna Park Middle School and Benfield Elementary will have new leadership in the fall after two longtime principals retire.

Two longtime Severna Park principals, Sharon Morell of Severna Park Middle School and Terri Sacchetti of Benfield Elementary School, are retiring from their posts.

New leadership will arrive this fall with Deborah Short, formerly the principal at Shady Side Elementary, taking the reins as the new principal at Benfield Elementary School.

Sharon Hansen, formerly principal at Crofton Middle School, will now lead Severna Park Middle School.

The changes take effect on June 27, according to Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS).

Fifteen of the new assignments have been finalized, and at least nine schools will have first-year principals when school opens in August.

“I believe these changes make us better as an overall system as we continue along our journey to greatness,” Maxwell said in a press release. “I am excited about the talented group of new principals who have been promoted and am confident that those principals who are changing locations will be great assets to the new communities which they will now serve.”

Principals still need to be named for Cape St. Claire and Shady Side elementary schools.

A complete list of promotions and reassignments can be found in the "For Your Information" section of the school system’s website, www.aacps.org.
