Take Your Dog to Work on Friday
The annual holiday celebrates dogs and encourages adoptions.
Need something to make your Friday more exciting? Take your dog along with you to work.
Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day. So grab your coffee, keys and pup and head out the door for a fun-filled workday with man’s best friend.
According to Take Your Dog.com, the holiday was first celebrated in 1999, and was created by Pet Sitters International.
The day was created to “celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs,” according to the website.
Suzanne Lawter, director of community outreach for Mutts Matter, a dog rescue group, said they fully support the event.
"We are aware and support Take Your Dog to Work Day and really appreciate that it raises awareness and encourages adoptions from local shelters and rescue groups like Mutts Matter," Lawter wrote in an email to Patch. "Most people are unaware of how many wonderful dogs of all breeds are waiting in shelters for someone to love them. These are healthy, normal, adoptable pets whose only fault is that they don't have a place to call home. Rescuing a dog is a virtuous endeavor and the right thing to do."
“There was an article in U.S. News about how bringing a dog to work can be beneficial,” Teter said. “It was very interesting."
You may want to check with your boss before bringing your dog along with you. But how could they object to spending the day with your furry friend?
