Kids First Swim School Gets Makeover

Local artist Jodi Roberts put the finishing touches on the murals last week at the Kids First Swim School in the Robinson Crossing shopping center.

Disney and other children's television characters are now freshly painted on the Kids First Swim School walls marking the completion of a makeover started when new management came on board in June.

Manager Patrick Morin, who also manages swim schools in Columbia, began the upgrades last summer. His assistant Tim Nielsen is on duty most days in Severna Park.

"We are keeping up with the housekeeping and have hired new staff to get the instructional level up to where it was," Nielsen said.

The inside has a fresh coat of paint and the pool was closed for cleaning and maintenance from Christmas until just after New Year's Day, Nielsen said.

Local mural artist Jodi Roberts used a projector to help create murals of movie and television characters in the parent observation room and private birthday party area. Roberts has been painting murals for nine years and is the owner of Off The Wall Painting.

According to a news announcement, she's painted murals there before and is pleased to be part of the makeover.

Isn't there a copyright law when using "Finding Nemo" images?

Thank you for your comment. This is considered "fair use of copyrighted work" - similar to using the image on classroom hand-outs.

Thanks for the clarification Jodi. As a former art educator and public school teacher I never used licensed images for any hand-outs but glad to know now it is "fair use."
I always encouraged artists to be empowered by great works of art but to never copy them.
