Steel Drum Band Entertains in Severna Park

The Old Mill High School Steel Drum Band held a fundraiser Monday night at Adam's Ribs.

The sounds of Dave Matthews, Michael Jackson and a few holiday tunes mixed in greeted guests at Adam's Ribs North in Severna Park on Monday night when the Old Mill High School Steel Drum Band performed during the dinner hour.

The performance was a fundraiser to benefit the band by providing a portion of the restaurant's dine-in and carry-out sales that evening.

Like last year, the band, led by Mike Miller, set-up in the front of the bar, which was renovated and expanded in 2010, and strummed a long set of tunes for the packed bar and the patrons who were waiting for seats in the dining room. The steel drum band is the only one of its kind in the Anne Arundel County school system.

Joe Lefavor, owner of Adam's Ribs North, was busy chatting with customers and reports that the fundraiser brought in $3,000, surpassing last year's $2,925 that was raised for the band. The money is used to maintain the equipment and for performance travel expenses.

"We did what we hoped to do," said Lefavor of the fundraiser.

The Old Mill Steel Band is simply fantastic! I've hired them for a couple of events and would highly recommend them. They're talented and they're local students. Kudos to Joe Lefavor for helping them raise money to offset their expenses!
