SP Dad, Sons, Going Bald for St. Baldrick

A Severna Park family plus an uncle are having their heads shaved at Fado to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation and raise money to fight childhood cancer.

There will be three more heads to shave at Fado Irish Pub in Annapolis on March 11 when a Severna Park family takes their seats to help raise money to fight childhood cancer.

The "Bachmann boys"—dad Austin and sons, Max, 12 and Gus, 8—will be joined by their uncle, Eric, in their attempt to reach the team goal of at least $2,500.

Last year, Eric Bachmann, Austin's twin brother, had his head shaved at Fado where Austin and the boys were spectators. The annual event raises money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity that raises money for childhood cancer research.

Austin Bachmann remembered two young boys about the same age as his own, who also were having their head shaved at last year's event.

"That is partially what inspired me to convince the boys to participate this year." he wrote in an email to Patch.

Another inspiration to the family, he said, was a boy named Jordon Dorfler, a grandson of a co-worker, who played briefly with Max when he was 4 years old at Bachmann's workplace office party.

"Jordon was very sick at the time, but he brightened up and he and Max had a great time playing together at an office party we attended," Austin Bachmann wrote."

Jordon passed away not long after.

"It was so sad, and I keep thinking of all the experiences Jordon missed and of all the precious time that his family did not get to enjoy with him," wrote Austin Bachmann. "So Max, Gus, Uncle Eric and I are going to honor Jordon by having our heads shaved and raising money for childhood cancer research."

Patch will post an "after" photo of the Bachmann team after the St. Baldrick's event.
