Just when we thought we got through winter unscathed by a major snowfall, Winter Storm Saturn is coming our way.
Forecasts for the storm vary by location, but the latest Winter Storm Watch from the National Weather Service is predicting that the Severna Park area will get about 5 inches of wet snow beginning Tuesday night into Wednesday. The storm is expected to bring winds of up to 30 miles per hour.
Are you prepared? For snowstorm essentials, Ace Hardware in Severna Park has all the basics, including snow shovels, ice melt and scrapers.
Of course, snow always brings the threat of closures to schools, government offices and certain services. There have been no closures or delays announced as of Tuesday afternoon, but Patch will keep you updated. Here's a look at some of the institutions that may be affected.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools—There has been no announcement regarding school closures or cancellations of activities. Any announcement will be posted on AACPS.org and we will be sure to post it on Patch as well.
Anne Arundel Community College—There has been no announcement regarding school closures but the College Fair, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to March 13, according to a release issued Tuesday.
"Anne Arundel Community College is postponing one event and providing a snow date for another event, both scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, because of weather forecasts predicting inclement weather with possible heavy snowfall," the release stated.
Announcements will be posted on the official college website, aacc.org and onthe college's Facebook page.
For statewide emergency information, Maryland residents can go to the Maryland Emergency Management website and get live updates on traffic and road conditions at roads.maryland.gov.
Check back with Patch for updates on closings and delays.
