Smart Meters Being Installed in Severna Park
The controversial digital meter is now being installed in your neighborhood.
If you aren't home when a meter technician with Grid One Solutions, a BGE contractor, knocks at your door, you will be left with a smart meter installed on the outside of your home.
The technicians are deployed in Severna Park this week to install digital smart meters, which replace the current analog electric meter.
If you choose to answer the door, you may give the nod on the installation or pass, and it will be postponed. To date, there have been only several homeowners who have declined the installation since its start in May, A Grid One Solutions technician said.
The technicians have completed installations in Millersville and are continuing now in Severna Park and Pasadena.
The installation takes five to eight minutes and once complete a password is sent to the BGE customer to use on the BGE website to track their usage and account.

Not home. They ripped out my old meter and installed a SMART meter. Never received any documentation or password to track my usage. Also, I get to pay extra for it! Thanks BGE!

Patrick - go to http://marylandsmartmeterawareness.org/ and learn how you can write to BGE saying you do not want the SMeter and BGE must refrain from activating it (the transmitter). Also, you should call to complain to the PSC. Customers were supposed to be educated and receive notice prior to installations and BGE has failed miserably (despite its $61M budget to do so). Call 410-767-8028 while the PSC decides if we will be allowed to opt out.

SAY NO TO SMART METERS!!!
They are wireless, 2-way communications that can be hacked and your power shut down. Plus, WE are paying for them to be installed and we'll see it in our bills. They are NOT necessary, do NOT conserve energy, and will NOT decrease your rates. BGE has already told the PSC it will be back to ask for a rate increase to recover the costs. This is a $500M-$700M project and BGE only received $200M from the Dpt. of Energy. Do YOU want to pay for something that will only benefit BGE? I don't. I deferred installation under PSC Order 84926. You still can even if you got one. Do it now!

They are not knocking on doors. They are just installing and then leaving a paper saying they installed it. I came home to find a man installing one on our next door neighbors house. I pointed to my signs saying they may NOT install a Smart Meter on my property. The man said that was fine but we would have to get one eventually. He then went on to install them on all my neighbor's houses, he did not knock on anyones door. No one around here seems to know what a Smart Meter is. I am looking out my window now and see my neighbors Smart Meter. It's pretty scary when BGE can do this and raise our rates and 90% of the population has no clue.

This is your typical Public dis-information campaign!
Tell them what they want to hear, so as to minimize opposition and show compassion, then let you smart meter installers go about the smart meter roll out without consideration for the citizen.
When the proverbial fecal matter hits the fan?
Claim that there was a break down in communications between the utility Command and Control professionals and the Installation company Field thugs.
The icing on the cake is that Maryland (Utility'S Lapdog) PSC, is pretending to be collection names of OPT-OUT installation transgressions.

I have to say, you all need to calm down and remember that BGE OWNS the electric meter. If they want to upgrade it, I see that as their right. If you don't want an electric meter, get off the grid and learn to like the dark.

Nick Z. It is NOT a simple electric meter upgrade and quite frankly, it is NOT in their right according to the law. Their agreements - recorded in the county courthouses - give them limited rights and 2-way telecommunications is not one of them.

Traci:
You have not provided scientific evidence that **proves** that analog meters are "safe." Most analog meters generate magnetic fields and there are some who claim these fields are hazardous.
Please quantify the relative risk of analog meters -- which are not "proven safe" vs. smart meters.
Also, have you yet removed the false information on you website concerning the Karolinska Institute? Recall that the Karolinska Institute has two articles on its website disputing the claims adverse health from wireless communication.
Finally, have you removed links to CFSW whose director appeared on a radio talk show whose host is a virulent racist and Holocaust Denier?

Why does Traci, who is well aware of this, continue to promote the unscientific claims of the AAEM?
I'm hopeful that Traci has or will remove the false claims about the Karolinska institute from the Maryland Smart Meter Awareness site.
Furthermore, I'm waiting for Traci and Libber to remove all references to Christine Hoch and the Center For Safer Wireless as Ms. Hoch appeared on a show hosted by a virulent anti-Semite and Holocaust Denier. It is unthinkable that Libber would have anything to do with Ms. Hoch until we hear a valid explanation and apology.

SmartGridNews.com has to admit that we win Maine!
http://tinyurl.com/we-win-Maine
"Maine regulators have been ordered to reconsider smart meter related safety concerns by the state's highest court, which ruled the Public Utilities Commission didn't adequately address health concerns before approving Central Maine Power's smart meter program.
The issue, according to a report in the Bangor Daily News, is whether regulators bypassed their legal mandate to ensure the delivery of safe and reasonable utility services when they approved CMP's smart meter program. PUC lawyers had argued earlier that regulators didn't need to consider safety issues that had already been addressed by federal agencies and that those with health worries could take advantage of the opt-out provision.
But with 600,000 smart meters installed in homes and businesses in Maine, it's unclear what impact the court ruling will have. CMP has 2,000 smart meters left to install and a spokesman said they plan to finish up.
The Maine PUC, meanwhile, issued a statement indicating they are considering the best way to comply with the court's order.
Critics also argued there are constitutional problems with smart meters related to privacy and trespassing, but those claims were dismissed by the court."
here is the same story in the Bangor Daily News:

AAEM doctors have solid credentials. Stephen Barrett of Quackwatch whom you are quoting is THE QUACK himself: In 2001, he appeared in court as expert witness in a case concerning alternative medicine (the plaintiff of that case was actually a company he owned)... After hearing his testimony, the judge's comments as recorded in the court document read, " As for his credential as an expert on FDA regulation of homeopathic drugs, the Court finds that Dr. Barrett lacks sufficient qualifications in this area... Presumably his professional continuing education experiences are outdated given that he has not had a current medical license in over seven years. For these reasons, there is no sound basis on which to consider Dr. Barrett qualified as an expert on the issues he was offered to address. " http://www.quackpotwatch.org/quackpots/california_superior_court_judge_.htm
Stephen Barrett has not held a medical license since the 1990's.
That was 11 years ago and but he has continued to write about medical practices outside his expertise.

Malaprop - your constant irrelevant posts are tiring. I have asked Ou numerous times on numerous articles to provide evidence of the safety of smart meters and you offer nothing. Ou know why? Because you cannot. Because there is none. Because they aren't safe. Analogs, on the other hand, have been in existence since the 1880s, do not emit RF radiation. The test of time has proven them safe.
So - I challenge you to post something positive about smart meters. Can you?

Actually Traci, your unscientific complaints about smart meters are tiring, as are the falsehoods and links to unscrupulous websites.
You have asked me to prove that smart meters are safe, yet you have utterly failed to prove that analog meters are safe. There has been a rise in cancer over the last century that coincides with the deployment of analog meters. You simply cannot disprove the connection, and ELF that is emitted by the magnetic fields associated with analog meters has been listed by the WHO as a possible carcinogen:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IARC_Group_2B_carcinogens
And you are quite wrong about analog meters -- they use magnetic fields to rotate the counters.
What I find most humorous is your inability to detect the tounge-in-cheek argument here.
I'll add that your pathetic attempts to generate publicity for your website are the motivating force for these responses. Please expect my posts to continue unabated until you 1) Stop promoting your falsehood laden website, 2) Stop posting "science" from charlatans 3) stop soliciting contributions for this rubbish.
Moreover, my questions about Maryland smart meter awareness links to CFSW and its statements about Karolinska remain unanswered.
Finally, let me make clear that there is nothing personal here. You are simply out of your comfort zone discussing the technical and scientific issues at hand.

India

Mobile Towers: Government decides to cut radiation limits to a tenth from September 1
"If you are worried by the radiation emitted bycellphone towers around you, there is some good news. From September 1 this year, India will lower the level to one tenth of the prevailing standard - from 9.2 w/m2 (watt per square metre) to 0.92 w/m2. "
"India's current radiation exposure limit (9.2 watt/m2) for mobile towers is higher than countries like Russia (0.2 w/m2) and China (0.4 w/m2). In USA, Canada and Japan, however, the radiation exposure limit is much higher (12 w/m2),"
"Sharma said lowering of the limit is a preventive step against serious health risks posed by radiation emitted from towers which includes the possibility of developing certain types of cancer. "
"Dr R S Sharma, deputy director general of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), who represented the health ministry on the committee, said the new norms will place India among the more radiation conscious countries. "

Actually Traci, I'm wondering how much you are paid for promoting quackery (e.g. AAEM statements), misrepresentations (e.g. Karolinska warning on Smart Meters) and for promoting a website with links to CFSW whose director appeared on an anti-Semite's talk show.
I do know that MSMA asks for donations, so I suppose there is little incentive to remove misleading information from the website.
And I remind you that this is a Patch blog, not your blog. You have posted a link to your misleading website and another to a dubious organization. I'm simply informing the readers.
Also, you never answered my question about removing the misleading information and links to CFSW. Such actions would certainly make me reconsider posting.
