There are two public schools in Severna Park that offer a pre-K program:
- The Falcon's Nest at Severna Park High School (SPHS) is administered through the Child Development program and allows SPHS students to provide hands-on instruction to preschoolers. The school offers a pre-K 3 and pre-K 4 program which covers phonics awareness, math concepts, science, art and social sciences. The program splits high school students into three rotating groups – observers, planners and teachers.
There are 41 pre-K programs in Anne Arundel County, according to a release from Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS).
“Public prekindergarten programs in Maryland were established to improve the school readiness of children who are economically disadvantaged, or homeless,” according to the release. “If seats remain, schools may enroll students with other readiness needs."
In order to attend pre-K, children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1.
Parents with children who qualify for the program can register beginning on May 1 for the 2012-2013 school year. To register, parents must sign up in person at the school where their child will attend.
AACPS recommends that parents bring the following documents when registering:
- The child’s original birth certificate record.
- A copy of the child’s immunization record.
- Two proofs of residency (rental or mortgage agreement and current utility bill).
