Police Department Issues Heat Health Alert
Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees this weekend.
Due to the extreme heat forecasted for this weekend, the Anne Arundel County Police Department released a heat health alert with tips from the health department.
The National Weather Service is calling for temperatures to exceed 100 degrees in Anne Arundel County on Saturday. The police department would like to remind the public that the current extreme heat emergency may cause serious illness and possibly death.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department provided the following tips for dealing with extreme heat:
- If you or someone you know experiences headache, confusion, dizziness, nausea, or a rapid heartbeat, please get immediate medical attention.
- Stay in a cool place. If you do not have air conditioning, go somewhere that has it. Visit a movie theater, the mall, a friend or relative's home, community senior center or a cooling center in your area.
- Make sure you check in with family or friends every day if you live by yourself.
- Ask for help if you need it. Family, friends and neighbors can provide assistance.
- Drink plenty of fluids like water, but avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages.
- Never leave children or pets alone in a car.

Please, everyone, leave your dogs at home, not in your cars!!

Two dogs left in cars at the Annapolis Mall yesterday :( called 911 as the Police Department said and they had officers there pretty fast....some people just do not seem to care.....at least I didn't see children left in cars which also happens, grrrr

Well done, Rose! What happened then? What did the officers do? I saw a Rottie in a truck when I went to Shoppers Crofton on Saturday, but he did have the upper half of his body outside (big window) and the car was gone when I came back out, but I had been wondering if and what I should do! I've just recently moved here from Europe so am not really familiar with the ins and outs - do I just call 911??

Kat I was told to call 911 and they do respond fast too...usually the officer tries to locate the owner and the caller does not have to remain when they make the call but I always do and sometimes the owner is found and sometimes the police contact animal control and remove the animal, sadly depends a lot on the officer and what they do....some are more in tune to the crisis then others....sad but true. My concern is the owner who can come out, be told not to leave animal again and then the owner goes off to shop at another store! What are people thinking? Or are they? Just keep doing the right thing and hope for the best that is the best we can do.....
